Team Building Camp

I have been away for a Team Building Camp from 28-30 November 2008 at Seri Dinar Training Retreat in Janda Baik, Bentong, Pahang. Really very enjoying myself there. It is such a naturally environmental friendly place there and the whole program is so fun with no stress... The organization of the program is on such an excellent level and I'm very satisfied with it and even thinking of joining in such a quality and excellent team.

That's an introduction, so wanna blog about the activities I've gone through there. I guess this post will be kinda long one...hehe... Anyway I don't have the photos or videos on the activities, will try to get it from the organiser so that you all can have a look on it.

28 November 2008 (Friday)
Reached there at about 4:00 p.m. if I'm not mistaken. We have a tea break there while listening to the Chief Executive of Yayasan Tunku Abdul Rahman on things we need to do. Then we have a briefing session in the lecture hall, ice breaking session, grouping and also some activities with moral values. Each of us is given a file each and the first task for us is interviewing our friend and introduce him/her to everyone (work in pairs).

We have our dinner after the task is given to us and at 8:00 p.m. we gathered back in the hall. Every pairs is required to introduce his/her friend to everyone on some personal details, unforgettable moment, strength, weakness, secret that could be shared, and biggest personal achievement.

Then we have a short break for supper at about 10:00 p.m. and get back into the hall after 15 minutes. The activity for tonight is basically on team identity. So we have to come out with our team name, team hierarchy, team mission, team vision, team motto, team core values, team flag and team battle cry. We were actually given 1 hour to have this task completed then have a team presentation but not enough time, so we were dismissed at 11:30 p.m. and the presentation is brought forward to the next day.

29 November 2008 (Saturday)
After having breakfast, we gathered in the hall at 8:00 a.m. and have the team presentation on our team identity. From the presentation, we get to learn in more depth about organization hierarchy, mission and vision. Then we have a briefing about the safety and precaution to be taken during the outdoor activities.

There were altogether 4 stations and all the 4 teams will rotate in order from station to station with guidance from the facilitators. There were Eco Challenge, Flying Fox, 'A' Frame and Death Crossing. My team's first station was the Eco Challenge. This station consists of 3 activities-Jacob Bridge, V Bridge and the Single Rope Challenge. Actually all this 3 activities is not too diffilcult and most importantly is keep on moving then you'll be stable on the ropes. The next station is Flying Fox, everyone knows this...

After we have done the ropes activities, we moved on to the next station which is named Death Crossing. This activity needs teamwork in order to get all the members to cross over the area without touching the ground. Lastly is the 'A' Frame which also require teamwork and this one kinda challenging because I'm the one hanging on the frame while my team members will try to move me from one end to the other end safely without falling off (it's kinda diffilcult to imagine how it was without an image, will try to get the photos).

Then we have a short morning tea break before we move on for the next activity which is named as Jungle Lunch. All the team leaders made a decision to cook together and as such all of us search for the items together at the designated area in a given time. Most of the items were hid at the plants area, simulations area and the most important item I guess (chicken) were hid in water (in the river).

We are supposed to keep the items we found and we thought the facilitators were helping us, so what ever we found we passed to them. When time is up for the searching, we were told to gather under the canopy and the trainer asked "Where were all the food?". Then only we realized that we are supposed to keep it safely with us...haha... But the trainer is kind to us and all the items were returned. Then we all prepare the lunch and have the meal together.

We were given some time to have rest and refreshment before continuing the next session at 4:45 p.m. in the hall. In the evening, we have a session on the topic of Effective Communication. This session is also kinda enjoying with some simulations given and also some talk by the trainer. I think the most enjoying part is the non verbal communication where we (the spectators) are not allowed to talk but can only laughh while some of the volunteers were acting a play on the stage. Then we have a simulation on one way, two way and dinamic communication (giving instruction, listening, asking questions, solving puzzle).

At night we have a BBQ dinner which started at 7:30 p.m. and we have a session on Team Motivation by 9:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. We were given task on listing out what motivates us as a Tunku Scholars and all teams need to present it with some elaboration. Then the trainer gave some talk regarding motivation and as a learder, he/she must has more intrinsic motivator rather than extrinsic motivator. Have a supper before get into bed.

30 November 2008 (Sunday)
Early morning at 7 o'clock, all gathered at the car park area and have an aerobic session. This session was kinda enjoying one and everyone seems like were enjoying themselves throughout the session with the exciting movements. After that, we have our breakfast and were told to wait at the dining hall until we are given instruction to move into the lecture hall.

Then, one of the facilitators came and lead us to the lecture hall. We can heard exciting music being played so loudly in the air and was wondering what is happening. This is really a very fun approach of presenting a philosophy and in this session it's about the Fish Philosophy. The trainers and facilitators were resembling the situation which really happened in the Seattle's Pike Place Fish Market where they are having a motivated workplace filled with fun (if anyone of you who are interested to know more about the content, feel free to ask me).

The final activity for us is the Project 'X' and after the briefing about it, we were told to have a morning tea break while discussing on the project before it really starts. We were given 1 hour to build a mobile fruit picker which can withstand a 5kg weight by using the provided PVC pipes and connectors. My team really enjoyed ourselves throughout the project and our project outcome is the one that look so different from the others. We were having a lot of fun when constructing the fruit picker tower and although the structure look weird but it was successful in holding the 5kg weight during the test.

We have lunch after the presentation and testing of the project. By 2:15 p.m. all of us must gathered in the lecture room. The last task for every teams, where all the four teams need to list down 10 learning points we get from the program before we proceed into the participant's feedback evaluation and closing ceremony. All of us were given a surprise before we filled up the feedback form and have the closing ceremony.

The SDTR staffs really work so effectively and efficiently and I am really very attracted to it. We were presented on the videos of us throughout the program from the first day till the Project 'X' of the third day (that's really very surprising and all of us was like...wow...!!! that's really very fast as they manage to edit everything and presented it to us even before we left that place). Well, I hope that I can get a copy of our photos and videos so that you all can view it.

After everything is done, as usual a photo session of the participants together with the trainers and also with our Chief Executive of Yayasan Tunku Abdul Rahman. Before we left, we have our last meal there (evening tea break) and lastly we bid farewell and also thank everyone who have been with us throughout the program.

This is really a very nice place to organize a team building camp/motivational camp/training. There were also some companies that were conducting training at here. It is really true that the customers can be a repeating comers at this training retreat. The services provided are great and really meet the needs of clients. Maybe you all can
visit this site for more information and there were also some pictures of the activities provided.
